Podcasts for Beginning Writers

(Formerly a FFQ Article)

I'm currently listening to a couple different podcasts right now, The Dead Robots' Society and I Should Be Writing. Both shows give some great advice about writing, publishing, and marketing. One thing that I really like is that both shows have many episodes in which they interview authors, editors, or agents. You really get a great perspective on not only the craft of writing, but also, there is some great information about the publishing industry as a whole.

Another aspect of these shows comes in the way of networking. The hosts of the shows go to a collection of Cons (Conventions), such as DragonCon, WorldCon, BaltiCon, and many others. These are great places to meet other writers, editors, and to immerse yourself in the genre that you are interested in writing by going to panels and other events.

Podcasts are a great way to deliver information and even entertainment to the world. Using this type of platform for delivering information on the writing process, tips, brainstorming, and news has been wildly successful. Authors have begun to use the podcast method to release ‘podiobooks’ for free. This has proven to be a great marketing strategy in building a fan base.

I recommend that anyone who is interested in writing, whether for pleasure or profit, should check out these podcasts. Click on the links to go to their prospective websites for contact info and to download or subscribe to their podcasts.

A Bit of Reevaluation

I know it's been a while since my last post, but I figured I might as well throw out some updates. Anyone who has been following along should probably want to know that the first five short stories of the Colliding Empires have been released into a single file called "Volume 1."

Another thing that is probably the most notable is the fact that I haven't written a post since back in December. I've quite noticeably been derailed in both my blogging and my writing. I haven't done much writing at all. I apologize for that, but it is also one of my cycles that I definitely need to change.

The second, and most recent development, is that I've decided to remove myself from Twitter and delete my Facebook page. I felt that most of what was being put out to the internet on those media channels were shameless self-promotion. That isn't really what I wanted those to become. I don't like the idea of hitting people over the head with that message. And, to be qui…

Amazon Author Page Following

Check out my Author Page on Amazon! You can follow me there and get notified of new releases and my current portfolio. I think it's a great resource for those who want to get notified as soon as new titles become available. The Colliding Empires short stories have been coming out in a flurry lately. I'll be starting on the final five stories of The Colliding Empires soon. I'm hoping you won't have to wait as long for those as the previous five. By following me on Amazon, you'll be able to know as soon as they're available. Check out my page and follow, you won't regret it.

Gathering Steam

Hello everyone! Not much of an update today. I've gotten a few hundred words written, probably about a hundred or a little less in the Colliding Empires. I've gotten a few paragraphs written on a possible scifi novel and a novella that I had been working on.

I've been listening to Nathan Lowell's TRADER TALES. I always come back to this series. I love Ishmael's voice in that series, and I'm really looking forward to the next installment SEEKERS and another branch in that universe SMUGGLERS. I've taken a break to listening to Steven Erikson's Malazan books and have gone back to some podcasts:  The Dead Robots' Society, StarTalk Radio, Android Central, and Magic the Amateuring.

Enjoy the rest of your weekend and ...

Until the morrow and may your journey be meaningful!
