What is it about genre fiction that pulls in so many readers? I have had a huge love of fantasy for years. I'm also a fan of sci-fi, though it is my second love. I have my own reasons for loving fantasy. I love the new and beautiful worlds where anything can happen. All the rules are rewritten in this world. I can escape to a place where I love the main character because he is all the things that I am not or love understands my own point of view better than most of my friends can. Fantasy is a place were I can escape for an hour or two out the day, and all it takes for me to find it again is to open the book or fire up my kindle app.
But, one thing I want to mention is, there are lots of genres and sub-genres. There is epic fantasy, sword and sorcery, urban fantasy, dark fantasy, and many more, and that is just in the fantasy genre. So, what is it about genre that draws us in. Leave a comment on this post telling me what your favorite genre is and why. I'm curious as to what types of stories people read and why. Enjoy the rest of your weekend! I'll be here reading and writing away!

My interests range the spectrum. If the story is well written and character driven then I will probably like it. For example, my favorite books are the Harry Potter series, The Stand, Lamb, Memoirs of a Geisha, McTeague, and Wicked. I've been digging Karen Russell lately. She wrote a story called The Hox River Window that I read a year ago and still think about constantly.
ReplyDeleteI'm a big fan of the Harry Potter series and The Stand as well. Wicked is on my list to read, but I haven't gotten around to it yet. I've just recently dipped into other genres, and I think you're right. It all depends on how the book is written. Any genre can produce a story that I will enjoy and love as long as it is written well. Thanks for the comment!
